Tag Contemporary Artists of India

The contemporary art scene in India is still evolving. I speak from an artist’s viewpoint, and I believe that while India has some great contemporary artists, the art scene needs to mature in terms of understanding, appreciating, and acknowledging art for art’s sake.

Among the contemporary artists of India, I have special respect for:

  • Satish Gujral
  • Raja Ravi Verma
  • Anjolie Ela Menon
  • M.F. Hussein
  • Jamini Roy

A list of the best contemporary artists of India would also include

  • S.H. Raza
  • F. N. Souza
  • Amrita Shergill
  • Manu Parekh
  • Tyeb Mehta
  • Rameshwar Broota

This of course isn’t an exhaustive list, but the list of those artists whose works I’ve seen and appreciated.
